(Two seizures at San Diego area ports of entry)....The seizures were at the Otay Mesa and San Ysidro ports.

In total, they seized 28 parrots and three chickens. The first seizure was at the Otay Mesa Port. A man driving a 2017 SUV entered he port. He was sent to the secondary inspection area. At secondary CBP officers asked the driver to exit the vehicle so they could search inside. As he exited the vehicle the CBP officer noticed a strange bulk at the drivers ankles. They performed a security pat down and found six parrots in the man's boots. The driver was detained, and the rest of the vehicle was searched. Six more parrots were found near the passengers seat, two of which were dead. The second incident happened at the San Ysidro port. A 26 year old man drove an SUV up to the port. There were two passengers in the vehicle. They were all sent to the secondary inspection area. Customs and Border Protection Officers noticed movement under a blanket in the back of the SUV. They lifted the blanket and found a cage with 16 undeclared parrots. There was another cage with three undeclared chickens The driver and two passengers were detained.
