An 8-year-old girl was fatally injured in a Tuesday traffic collision.

The accident occurred shortly after 11:00 a.m. at the intersection of Brawley Avenue and State Route 86. According to the California Highway Patrol, a 2023 Chevrolet Suburban was westbound on Brawley Avenue when the SUV ran onto Highway 86 and collided with a northbound 2011 Toyota Highlander. The Toyota overturned and the 8-year-old girl, a passenger in the Toyota, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. The 38-year-old woman driving the Toyota as well as a 2-year-old girl passenger were taken to Pioneers Memorial Hospital for treatment. The 8-year-old was not restrained. The 77-year-old man driving the Suburban and his 82-year-old female passenger were not injured. The accident remains under investigation.
