There will be a DUI Checkpoint Saturday night.

The El Centro Police Department will conduct a driving under the influence checkpoint starting at 6:00 p.m. Saturday, November 2, and running through 2:00 a.m. Sunday. " Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk, according to ECPD Sergeant Adrian Chilpa,  Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improves traffic safety." Sgt. Chilpa added that impaired driving is not just from alcohol. Some prescription medication and over-the-counter drugs may interfere with driving. Medicinal and recreation lmarijuana are legal, driving under the influence of marijuana is illegal. 

The DUI checkpoint will be set up at Holt Street and Imperial Avenue. The location is determined based on data showing incidents of driving related crashes.
