A former U. S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer has been sentenced for receiving bribes to allow drug-laden vehicles to enter the U. S.

Leonard Darnell George was sentenced in federal court to 23 years in prison. George was found guilty of a number of charges related to his allowing unauthorized migrants and vehicles containing methamphetamine and other drugs at a San Diego area port of entry. At trial several witnesses testified that George agreed to allow the drug-laden vehicles through his lane in late 2021. George would notify members of the drug trafficking organization when he was at work and that they had one hour to reach his lane. Testimony from witnesses confirmed that George purchased vehicles, motorcycles , and jewelry with the proceeds from his activities.
