Imperial County first responders were busy over the weekend.
On Friday night at about 9:20 p.m., a hit and run accident was reported on Interstate 8 near Orchard Road. The suspect vehicle rear-ended another vehicle and then continued westbound on Interstate 8. Officers were able to locate the suspect vehicle, a Chevy Suburban, near State Route 7. A small child was in the suspect SUV and was released to family members. The driver is facing charges of Felony Hit and Run.
At about 8:45 a.m. Saturday a semi tractor-trailer was reported burning on southbound Highway 86 just north of the Border Patrol checkpoint. Imperial County Fire Department was able to extinguish the flames but traffic was backed up for nearly 3 hours as CalTrans had to respond to repair damage to the roadway. There were no injuries.
Sunday morning at about 8 a vehicle went into a canal at Clark and Jasper Roads. Two people in the vehicle were able to escape from the partially submerged vehicle. Both were transported to El Centro Regional Medical Center with what were described as minor injuries.
