The woman and the child have been located unharmed and safe.
The Yuma County Sheriff's Office (YCSO) is looking for a 39-year-old woman and her 10-day-old child.
At about 10:45 p.m. Tuesday, YCSO deputies responded to the report of an injured man in the 11-300 block of Elena Drive. Deputies located the man who had an injury to his hand. The man was uncooperative during questioning and transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center for treatment. Evidence at the scene led deputies to a residence where it is suspected an incident took place. No other injured parties were located but it was noted that the male victim's girlfriend and their newborn child were missing. The missing woman was identified as Esmeralda Chavez-Avalos, 39, of Yuma. The baby girl is approximately 10 days old. Chavez-Avalos is described as 5'4" tall, about 200 pounds, with light brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a pink shirt and blue jeans. YCSO is asking that anyone with any information contact the Yuma Sheriff's Office.
