The El Centro Police Department will conduct a DUI Checkppoint Friday.
According to Sergeant Adrian Chilpa, "Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk. Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improves traffic safety". DUI checkpoint locations are based on data showing incidents of impaired driving related crashes. The primary purpose of the Driving Under the Influence Checkpoints are to promote public safety by taking impaired drivers off the road. The checkpoint will be in operation from 6:00 p.m. Friday night until 2:00 a.m. Saturday. Funding for th program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
