U. S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the El Centro Sector arrested a woman accused of smuggling 93 pounds of fentanyl.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, on Interstate 10 near Indio. Border Patrol agents stopped a suspicious car on westbound Interstate 10. A woman driver and her teenage son were in the car. A canine detection team alerted to the car and the initial search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a single blue pill. The car was taken to a nearby Border Patrol station and a second search led to the discovery of tens of thousands of fentanyl pills hidden under the seats. Total weight of the fentanyl pills was over 93 pounds. The woman driver, a U. S. citizen, was arrested and turned over to the Drug Enforcement administration. The teenage son was released.
